QuadSmash is a 1-to-4 players game. Players drive blazingly-fast vehicles in various arenas, fighting against each other in 3 different gamemodes. There’s also features a singleplayer campaign. The game uses finely-tuned 2D physics and carefully-designed controls to offer a precise gameplay, easy to learn and hard to master.

Do you remember what it was like going to a restaurant with your friends or coworkers back in 2000? You talked about movies, comics, politics, work, games, gossip – whatever came to your mind. Good old-fashioned conversation.

But these times are over. Nowadays, everybody is equiped with the newest smartphones and use it to communicate with everybody in the world, except the  people who are sitting at the same table. Old-fashioned conversation is considered by many as, well, somewhat old-fashioned.  Besides, you didn’t buy an expensive smartphone to leave it in the pocket, or to use it when nobody is watching, did you?

That’s where our “TableTalk” application comes in: The application determines the exact position of the user via GPS and GSM localisation and opens a chat with other TableTalk users at the same table. So you can communicate with the people at the same table without feeling old-fashioned or poor.

TableTalk will run on iPhone, Android and Windows Phone 7. Communication isn’t restricted to users using the same OS. We are currently evaluating the possibility of adding voicechat and life camera feed. Production will start mid April, release date will be end of June for iPhone and mid July for Android and Windows Phone.

We’re currently working on Lands of Loot, Skicross Challenge, Snowboard Adrenaline , several serious-gaming projects, and a port of TURN for Windows Phone.

Lands of Loot is a looter-shooter game on iOS devices using the Unity engine. We’re now working on implementing gameplay and game mechanics.

Skicross Challenge: We’re enhancing the art & gameplay of the advergame we released last year for Alpe d’Huez

Snowboard Adrenaline: the Facebook version is available. You can enjoy it right now!

Serious gaming project: We’re working on a decoration and house fitting software using Unity technology. It looks gorgeous !

TURN: We’re always eager to work on new platform. We choose TURN for it could be the best product to port on Windows Phone since we’re already used to port it on several devices.

It’s very roughly said, but many things written are actually true.

TURN may be hard for neophytes, although the DSiWare version has been simplified and enhanced. Yet we actually saw people having many difficulties to understand the game, even in the easiest levels. The game mechanics aren’t that obvious. We still have many progress to make in ergonomics.

“Big head” critic is probably due to the fact that Kurt and Camila are always displayed in big on the upper screen when you play. We can understand that it may appear “weird” for some people.

There’s no accounting for taste, so you might not love arts (graphics and sound design) on our games, whereas many other people find them outstanding.

I just want to speak here about DSiWare and pricing. Nintendo decide the price of every game on the DSiWare. We may give an opinion on it but they control absolutely everything in their market, which is quite right. Considering TURN’s quality and length, it’s actually normal that we stand within “Premium” games at 800 points. We easily bear comparison with other games on that particular price range. iPhone’s version is for sure well beyond that price, but it’s not the same platform, the same device, the same market at all. There are many more production and publishing constraints on DSi: ESRB rating, validation / Q.A. process, integration production line). Althougth it may look like “the same project”, it was definitely two different projects for us internally. Only gameplay and basic LD are the same in both versions. Just have a look at both AppStore and DSiWare market to understand what I’m speaking about. There are 3D advanced games on the iPhone for free or less than 1 $, whereas each and every “high quality” games are sold on DSiWare for 800 Points or more. It’s harder to develop and publish on the DSiWare, but that’s what assure you that games have higher production value and quality, they have passed many steps of validation and testing.

Thanks to both those reviewers, with different but complementary opinions. Critical reviews are what makes us progress, appraisal ones are what encourage us to get further forward  faster.

TURN’s gameplay is quite fun by itself: you move your character, you turn the room, everything falls. Difficulty is what makes the game something more than a simple toy. Without difficulty TURN is just a kind of nice snowball. But if the challenge is too hard, and especially too hard too soon, you lose that “instant fun gameplay” and the game turns (a really appropriate verb for that game, sure) out to be a real headache. We didn’t understand that. Since by working on TURN we became sort of “TURN pgms” (progamers, not to be mistaken with programmers) we didn’t realize that the game was that hard. Actually it became something more of a challenge for us to create rooms which were nearly impossible to solve. And we were awfully wrong…

For someone with the right brain and the time to spend at overheating it, TURN Episode 1 (the first version) was perhaps one of the best puzzle games on the AppStore. We received such praises by hardcore puzzle gamers, since our game was long (nearly 300 rooms) and hard (rrrrr). But they were drowned in the middle of many complaints about the game difficulty and especially the fact that it wasn’t forgiving at all: any mistake and you could end up having to start a room all over. We listened to that demand, and we began to think about loosening the difficulty noose. And that time, we were right.

We first thought about making some tips available to the player through the game. But we also realized that we would have to make some levels easier. And by doing this, we found that the game was still a good game for us “TURN pgms”, and actually it was probably “more fun”. So we started a real complete introspection, and a new project was launched: creating a game that relies only on delivering the instant fun gameplay of TURN: MiniTURN was born. We now think that MiniTURN is the good game for iPhone’s audience. And we hope that we’re right.

                          

Because we filmed one of our pla… *khof khof* testing session on stenciL. Yeah sometimes we’re really doing some hard work, it’s a very restricting and demanding job indeed! We thought that you could be interested in having a look.
There are some sound issues in the video, since we couldn’t stay always calm. But we’ll do better next time! We speak in French in the video, and we were too lasy to write subtitles. If you’re angry at us for that let us know, we will make an effort for our English speaker fans.
